The Curse of Bhangarh Fort

What if a normal perfume could become the reason behind the destruction of an entire kingdom? Discover the Bhangarh Fort curse, the mysterious legend of Princess Ratnavati, black magic, and the haunted ruins of one of India’s most mysterious forts.

The Curse of Bhangarh Fort

In Rajasthan, there is an old fort called Bhangarh Fort, surrounded by ruins, temples and stories of black magic, curses and a princess. It is considered one of the most mysterious places in India.

The most famous story of Bhangarh is connected to Princess Ratnavati. She was known for her beauty and had many people interested in marrying her. But there was one person who wanted her for himself — a man named Singhia, who was said to be skilled in black magic , a practioner of Tantra.

Singhia knew that the princess would never accept him, so he decided to use magic instead.

One day, Princess Ratnavati went to the market with her friends and wanted to buy ittar, a traditional perfume. Singhia secretly enchanted the perfume with a spell. According to the legend, anyone who used it would fall under his control and become attracted to him.

But things did not go according to his plan.

Ratnavati somehow discovered what had happened. Instead of using the perfume, she threw it onto a large boulder nearby.

And then the story takes a strange turn.

The Curse that changed everything

The magic was believed to affect the boulder. The huge rock started moving towards Singhia and eventually crushed him. Before dying, Singhia is said to have cursed Bhangarh, saying that the kingdom would be destroyed and that nobody would be able to live there again.

Not long after, Bhangarh was attacked and the kingdom was eventually left in ruins. According to the legend, Princess Ratnavati also died, along with many of the people living there. The thought that an entire kingdom could fall because of a curse is one of the reasons this legend continues to fascinate people. Imagine a place that once echoed with conversations, celebrations and the footsteps of royal families slowly becoming empty and forgotten. The grand palace, once associated with power and prosperity, would eventually stand as a reminder of a lost world. Although there is no conclusive evidence that a supernatural curse caused the kingdom’s destruction, the story gives the ruins a tragic and unsettling identity that has lasted for generations.

But the story of Bhangarh does not end there.

There is another legend about a holy man named Baba Balau Nath, who had been meditating in the area before the fort was built. He supposedly allowed the city to be constructed on one condition — no building should become so tall that its shadow reached his home. When the palace was later made taller, its shadow is said to have reached his dwelling, and Baba Balau Nath cursed the city.

Today, the fort is mostly in ruins. You can still see old temples, streets, havelis and the remains of the royal palace. But what makes Bhangarh different from an ordinary abandoned fort is the number of stories that have survived with it.

People have claimed to hear strange sounds and experience unusual things around the ruins. Whether these stories are actually supernatural or simply legends that became bigger with time is impossible to say.

There is, however, one real rule that adds to the mystery: visitors are not allowed to remain inside Bhangarh Fort after sunset or before sunrise.

Maybe Bhangarh was destroyed because of wars, changing circumstances and the passage of time.

Maybe the curses are nothing more than stories.

Or maybe the old legends are hiding something we still don’t understand.

After all, some places don’t need ghosts to feel haunted.

And Bhangarh? Something’s definitely off.
